In thinking about what to feature as today’s Friday Favorite, I found myself stuck between a few options.
One of my hats?
A coat?
A shirt?
Pants?
Then I jokingly thought “What about my ring?” I mentioned this to Sara, who not only thought it was a good idea, but also noted that I could also talk about our friends’ wedding this weekend and friends coming to town, et cetera.
Of course, I immediately dismissed that idea.
But, in thinking about it, she was right. (Yes, I put that in print.)
So, this week’s Friday Favorite: My wedding band.
When Sara and I got married, we asked our friend, Amy, if she would be willing to design our wedding bands. She graciously accepted the challenge… and we thought no more of it, knowing that our rings were.. um… in good hands. A few weeks later, Amy got back in touch with us, asking what we wanted on the rings.

To help the process, she asked us what our hobbies were – she figured that she could incorporate something from those into the rings. That question made it easier for us: Sara is a quilter and I’m a collector/gamer. We wanted something that represented both of us, and that’s what we went with:
- SaraRules chose a log cabin quilting pattern
- I chose a Green Lantern symbol.
The pattern – quilt square/lantern – is repeated around the ring.
What is it that makes this a favorite? Many things, including, but not limited to:
- It’s my wedding ring.
- Sara has a matching ring, not something completely different.
- It was designed by a friend, who took the time to make sure that there was a personal touch (hers) and a personal connection (our hobbies) to it.
- I have a freakin’ Green Lantern ring! (As if my geekery wasn’t showing enough, already…)
