A few weeks ago, I signed up for Stitch Fix, a service which describes itself as:
…an online styling service that delivers a truly personalized shopping experience, for you and your family.
It seemed like an interesting way to potentially update a few items in my wardrobe, so I decided to give it a go.
When setting up an account with Stitch Fix, you are asked to provide a “Style Profile,” which includes your body type, sizes – shirt, sweater, jacket, pants, and shoes – and also asks you to identify your given preferences in styles of clothing, how often you wear certain styles per week, what brands you favor, and even budget. From these, a Personal Stylist will select items that fall within the parameters you defined.
Fast forward to a little over a week ago, when my first Fix arrived. The box contained two shirts, a pair of slacks, a pullover, and a pair of shoes. It also included a sheet of cards, describing each item and that also gave a couple of ideas of how to coordinate the pieces.
Looking at the items in my Fix, it was a good blend of things in line with my usual style – the pullover, slacks, and shoes – and a couple of things that were a little outside my norm (both shirts). But, to be honest, the outliers weren’t so far off-track for me that I wasn’t willing to give them a shot. The cut of the pieces was spot on, with enough give and flexibility to be worn comfortably all day. Also noteworthy, each item’s pricing was easily within market norms; I didn’t feel as though anything was outrageously priced.
As you can also see in the top-left image, your Fix also comes with a postage paid envelope, in which you can return any items you decide not to keep.
I was quite pleased with the selections. Added validation came when I wore the combination in the first picture above to work last week and received a number of compliments on it. That made me much more at ease in my decision to have kept the entire Fix.
In all, I found Stitch Fix to be an interesting alternative to spending the day shopping, with the added convenience of having all the items delivered to your door. I’m looking forward to seeing what my next Fix has to offer.
