One thing that most guys have to deal with on a more-or-less daily basis is shaving:
Lather.
Shave.
Rinse.
Repeat every 24 – 48 hours.
And for those of us who decided to go “voluntarily bald” rather than let Mother Nature create unique hairstyles for us, it’s more than just a process for the chin and cheeks. And, as you might imagine, doing so means that we are covering more real estate with our razor blades than our less follically-challenged brethren. Which, in turn, means that we wear out razor blades a little more quickly.
Until a few weeks ago, I had never heard of Dollar Shave Club. My friend, Dave, mentioned it and how he was considering giving it a shot. A few days later, I saw a commercial for Dollar Shave Club on television:
About six weeks after his initial comment, Dave posted this:
So a few weeks back I posted about Dollar Shave Club. Now that I’ve had some time with their blades, I can formally give them a hearty two thumbs up with a “F*uck Yeah!”. While I had to go through the usual adjustment period that comes with changing blades, they are awesome!
The blades and handle have a nice weighty feel to them. The angle needed to get a clean cut is just right and easy to find (kinda a big deal when shaving one’s skull). And they are *very* easy to clean out. The only “con” thus far is I went for the 4 blade option after years of 5 blades, and it does feel different. But the shave quality seems just fine. Still, I’m tempted to give the 5 blade a shot.
Regardless, if you’re tired of being extorted for razor blades, I encourage you to give them a shot!
I’d consider that a fairly glowing endorsement.
So, when my current supply of blades runs out, I’m considering abandoning my ten-plus year commitment to [REDACTED] razors and giving Dollar Shave Club a go.
UPDATE
Somewhere around the time that this post went live, Dave posted a new update about his Dollar Shave Club experience. If this had been an actual newspaper or magazine, I’d have to wait until the Evening Edition or the next issue to update you with the news. But, since this is an easily updated electronic format, I can bring you the latest and greatest in (not quite) real time:
Over the weekend I received my upgraded “Executive” razor from Dollar Shave Club, and it’s an upgrade for sure, but in subtle ways: The handle is beefier, has a more solid feel and better contours, and the 6 blades vs. 4 make for a much smoother, nearly effortless shave. I like them even better than the Mach 5 blades I used to use.
Because of that, I think I’ll be sticking with the Executive, especially since I think that my shaving habits will let me get away with DSCs “Not so hairy” ever other month plan. Oh, an added bonus, it seems like DSC did something obvious: even though they offer separate handles, both their 4 blade and their 6 blade cartridges will fit in either handle.
So, I’m pimping again, simply because DSC has absolutely become my go to source for good blades, check them out!
And there you have it!
